Gravel and the New Path

Wednesday November 3, 2004

Tom went to work today in town. But I woke up in a better mood than I have been for awhile and speculate that the looming election and all of the concern and worry in the ether was contributing to my mood. I did check online to see who had won and had a momentary depression but it really didn’t keep me down. Faol called to let me know who had won the election. He likes to be the one to give me bad news because he wants to be able to comfort me and make me feel better. He assumes that I will take it better from him and he is probably right about that. His support is very comforting when there is something difficult that doesn’t have to do with him. We talked for something like two hours. Before he called I ordered gravel for the driveway and cancelled our collision insurance on the car since the car isn’t worth much more than the deductible now. We got off because he got a call from another friend. Almost immediately after that the gravel truck arrived and I showed the driver where to dump the 4 yards for the path to the front door and where to begin spreading the rest on the driveway. We got two loads, which seems to make it down the hill and 3/4’s of the way to the gate and our property line. The rest of the easement still needs a lot more gravel as well but it isn’t something that we can afford. Maybe in the spring we can get a couple more loads on the worst places.

Faol called back after that to let me know that he had reconnected with a friend of his that I had met about two years ago. Seems she has 18 month old twin girls now and she is in her mid 40’s I think. Wow! We only talked for about 20 min. that time.

I called to check on when the grader blades were coming in to the Implement store. Tom thought it might be this Thursday but I was pretty sure it was next Thursday from listening to his half of the conversation. And it was indeed next Thursday. Luckily the driver did a very good job spreading the gravel so that there was no large humps at the end or beginning of the spread but it is still uneven in the place where the first load finished off and the second load began. There is a section about 10 feet long perhaps which is a foot or so deep in gravel instead of a few inches. That will need to be spread out as soon as we get the new grader blade.

I also cooked up all the precut pumpkin pieces. Tom cut them for me yesterday since with the tendonitis it is hard for me. I put all the pumpkin flesh in bags in the refrigerator to make things with the rest of the week.
