A Day of Stress

Wednesday November 24, 2004

I woke up in the night with a headache and should have gotten up and taken something right away but didn’t. When I woke up at 5:30 am I asked Tom to get me some ibuprofen and went back to sleep for a couple of hours. The phone rang and woke me up. It was Faol. He was calling to discuss my email of the night before. It was a difficult discussion as these things are but we got through it. He disagreed with the conclusions that I drew from the incident and we talked about how he saw it. For the first few moments we were on speaker and Joyful was part of the conversation. While I know she wanted to be I didn’t feel up to being ganged up on right then. I understand that isn’t what they were trying to do but in the state I was in that is what it felt like and I really needed to have some time just with Faol.

At the end of the conversation I was already running around trying to collect the things we needed to pack. We got off and I tried to pay attention to getting ready to leave but it was not easy. Besides the headache I was feeling emotionally drained. Tom and I got out of the house about a half an hour late. We still had to stop at the store for some of the Thanksgiving dinner items.

We called Vivre Draco as we left the store. He wasn’t awake yet and we were going to be there in half an hour. We knew that meant he wouldn’t be ready but we didn’t expect him to want to shower before we could leave. He was in a very strange emotional place apparently due to not getting enough sleep, not having eaten since the day before, and was quite crabby. He was determined to take a shower and we were equally determined that he would not, if he was coming with us so we could get going. Eventually we went to a nearby Open Pantry and picked up some sandwiches for him and went back. He was at least dressed and partially packed. But we still ended up waiting about an hour.

That extra time meant that we got into the Chicago area about rush hour and the last 2 1/2 hours was driven through snow, slush, and sleet, the first snow of the season and people were still just trying to remember how to drive in it. It took us two hours longer than it normally does to make the drive, which it would not have done had he been ready to leave. And after we arrived Tom had to take Vivre Draco out to a pharmacy because even after packing up all his shower stuff and contacts solution he forgot to take it to the car.

Mom got things out of the refrigerator to feed us. There were rolls, and deli sliced ham, potato salad, apple and walnut salad, a green salad, and cold chicken breast, and apple pie. Now I am tired from the day and sitting in the car so long even though I didn’t drive. Tom has been amazing. I know he must be exhausted but he is still out with our son.
