Settling into the Routine

Friday December 3, 2004

In the morning Faol was on the computer arranging a trip to visit Raven and Ron, and talking with them on the phone. I started the laundry then tried to change sheets and make the bed by climbing over it, back and forth, back and forth, so that I wouldn’t have to climb over Faol while he was concentrating. We are using like 5 blankets because it has been so cold here. I didn’t know when he would be ready to go out so didn't want to begin anything that I would be in the middle of when he was ready to go. Finally we went out to get a heating pad, pick up money owed to him, and pick up a few items at Trader Joe’s.

I was tired after Faol left but did my exercises anyway. I tried calling Tom but his appointment in town had turned into working all day. I washed the stovetop so that I could use the oven. (There is a leak over the stove so when it rains the depressions around the burners fill with brown water and I didn't like the idea of them getting hot from the oven and outgassing some unknown toxin from the roof or something.) Having found a recipe for pumpkin pie that didn’t have sugar or milk and was seemingly pretty easy I prepared to make it. It uses tofu and honey. All ingredients go into a blender. Unfortunately Faol’s blender wasn’t powerful enough to do this with any ease so I ended up stopping it, stirring it, blending, stopping and stirring, etc. over and over. Finally I just poured everything into a container and mixed it by hand. The recipe specified that it would be a bit sloppy after it cooked but that it would firm up the rest of the way after it chilled but it really wasn't all that goopy to begin with but that could be because I added an egg to the recipe. Faol was pleased with it anyway. I had hoped to spend some time cuddling as he had said we would but after having pie he called a friend and I went to bed.
