Not Very Close Encounter

Wednesday December 8, 2004

We still didn’t have hot water this morning and so far this evening (really Thursday morning just) we don’t yet either. Yesterday we got a new water heater and Faol got it all connected. Then we went for dinner with our friend and had a lovely time. We went to the Bangkok Restaurant again and Faol had the crab fried rice. I had the Mee Krob, a fried noodle appetizer. It was quite yummy.

She came home with us and we chatted for sometime. Faol got to give her a back massage and adjust her back. She loved it. After she left he went out to get a part for the heater and when he came back he mentioned having an intense chest pain so he only did a bit more then came and sat down on the sofa with me to relax. We watched part of the Farscape Peacekeeper War mini-series then went to bed.

This morning he lit the pilot. That worked. But when he would set the thermostat and turn the temperature up, the pilot went out, over and over. It was very depressing. We then spent a lot of time researching on the web about the combustion shut off valve, in fear that it had been tripped and would need to be reset by a professional. Eventually through phone calls Faol discovered that it might be the gas pressure either under or over pressure. He told me he would stop and get the part for the gas line on the way home.

After he left I did my exercises though am still not up to using the exercise ball again after my neck pain of last week. Though I plan on starting them up again tomorrow when he leaves for work. I talked with Tom while I exercised and spent almost the whole time complaining about being here, the mess, the cold, the lack of hot water, Faol’s way of approaching getting work done here. I don’t know why it was such a big deal. I guess the lack of hot water really added stress.

Then I got the dishes done in cold water, washed towels in cold water (though they got dried on hot). Joyful and I talked on the phone (for 2 1/2 hours) while I entered cash receipts from the last couple of months for Faol. I haven’t reconciled August’s bank account statement because I was off on it during my last trip and didn’t get the time to find the error. But I am going to try and get all the receipts from the end of October, November, and the beginning of December entered, and then go back and work that out because they keep growing while I am gone. I hate when this happens though. Ah well.

I watched a bit of tv, and looked up to see the possum scrambling away from Clarissa, (the cat that owns us here). She wasn’t chasing it she just watches it. It toddled off toward the kitchen and disappeared in the other room. I went to look where it had gone but didn’t see it so returned to tv. I heard a noise and saw its tail disappearing in the bathroom. After a bit I went and got a broom and kept it near me because I was very nervous about it. I also didn’t go into the bathroom again until after Faol got home. He said we can block it out of the house but it will take clearing out the clutter in the two back rooms where it is hiding. It can go in and out through a hole in the floor that goes to the basement but we can’t do it until we are sure that it isn’t hiding in the clutter when we block off the hole. And that is a project that will take some time and focus so I don’t know when it will work out.

Faol got right to working on the heater again and replaced the part in the gas line, and lo, and behold, the burner stayed lit and we have hot water!!! Yay!!!

Later we went back to the Peacekeeper’s War but couldn’t finish it before we were both quite tired. Faol wanted a hot bath before we went to bed and wanted me with him so I was very very tired. It was about 3 am before we finally trooped up to bed.
