Embrace of the Vampire Review

Thursday July 7, 2005

We watched Embrace of the Vampire last night. It was kind of strange and came with both R and unrated versions. We watched the unrated one. There was a lot of erotic scenes without showing any genitals. I liked that part of it but in some strange way the whole movie was less erotic in tone, to me, than many without the sex scenes. And somehow the vampire aspects lacked real (ok movie) tension. I am not entirely sure why as it had most of the elements that should have created it. Perhaps some of it was because when the characters were supposed to be bad they didn’t seem all that bad to me. The character that Alyssa Milano played was being pursued and seduced by a vampire. At one point she is being the temptress and is kissing another woman. She bites her tongue I think and the woman runs off as if something bad happened. The woman doesn’t say what did you do that for, or I don’t like pain, or don’t do that, she just puts her hand over her mouth and leaves. It just seemed unreal. Still I enjoyed the scenes of Alyssa getting photographed and the seduction aspects of it though she stops it well short of that.
