Tom spent several hours with the tractor mowing the orchard and cutting up
some downed trees. I couldn’t seem to get motivated so basically only
got the dishes done, and my morning routine. So the toilet and sinks are shiny.
Other than that I read SF and Fantasy magazine and did email. I posted an
essay to the Grok Fellowship list on the values, and how "Know Thyself"
runs through all of them. It didn’t get any response though. Ah well…
I named my Live Journal "Message in a Bottle", and I think I posted
something about that here when I first started these online journals, because
it all feels like putting a message in a bottle and casting it out to sea
to me. I have no idea if anyone reads them (except for a few friends who bug
me occasionally when I am not posting to my journal site) and if they do,
who. Email lists are often like that as well. One puts together a considered
post and no one responds to it. It may be that it just didn’t touch
anyone, or that they agreed and had no need to say so, or that they didn’t
have the time, or they were uninterested. One never knows, only that it went
out and had whatever effect it was going to but with no indication of what
that might have been. Sometimes that induces me to blather on since it doesn’t
really matter what I say. Other times it induces me to stop responding myself
since it doesn’t really matter what I say. And then I will respond to
someone’s post with a line or two of appreciation or comment and I get
back a private note saying how much they appreciated my feedback. You just
never know who or how you might be touching someone, or the potential impact
of your words.
