Purse Stories

Sunday September 25, 2005

This site is incredible. It has taken an item of women’s apparel and used it as a base to share stories. Each little vignette is a piece of history of a woman’s life. I don’t know whether all of them are true or whether some of them are fiction but the one’s I read were simple slice of life and culture. In a few short paragraphs something of the attitude of society towards women, the way women are socialized, and how we survive it all can be seen. This is the opening paragraph that describes the website:

“Purse Stories evolved from a collaboration with the Weave Dance Company. Together, the dancers and I worked on Women’s p a c e a full-length dance that used the purse as a metaphor for womens private interior space. Woman’s p a c e premiered at Stages Repertory Theater in Houston, TX in May 1999.”

Another day that I couldn’t seem to get going. Faol called and we spoke for almost two hours and ended the conversation talking about land in Oregon, which got me web searching for properties again. And that kept me busy the rest of the afternoon.

Tom asked me if I had left the house today as he didn’t think we had turned the alarm off all weekend. He’s right we never stirred from the house. Strange.
