A Simple Ritual

Sunday November 6, 2005

Phoenix arrived early while I was still getting food ready for the potluck. It was great to see her and I was delighted that she could come out on such short notice. Later Thomas arrived. We began to set up the altars and get everything outside for the ritual. We were nearly done with set up when the Oakfire couple arrived.

It took much longer to set up than I had expected for the simple ritual. We set up "stations" in the circle: one for the ancestors with food and drink for each of us to offer to the ancestors, a bag of runes to draw wisdom from the ancestors, and pencil and paper to write down whatever came; one for the underworld with cauldron filled with water for scrying, a mirror to face our deepest selves, and a tarot deck to give a choice in methods for divination; and one for the Great Above, the future with a deck of affirmations for something positive to focus on in the future and a statue of a dancer for the dancer at the center of the universe who danced creation into being and is still dancing, creating the future. We started at the bonfire in community and drew the circle then one by one went to the stations and returned to the bonfire when we were done to end by bringing things back to the community. It turned out to work rather well and each person had their own inspirations.

Some of us went in the hot tub where I stayed til midnight chatting with Ken.
