Faol has been talking about piercing my ears for more than a year. I wasn’t so sure about it since I tend to faint from needles and have managed to get this far in life without having any extra holes in my body. But I had agreed and Tom had agreed that Faol might do it. When I woke up Faol had already been up for perhaps half an hour. When I arose I discovered the massage table set up and covered with a blanket to make it more comfortable, a TV tray set up with the kind of forceps that have loops as the part that holds on, the piercing needle and holder, etc. A hot bath was drawn for me and once I was up and made tea I got in and talked with Tom for a bit. Faol had also wanted me to call Tom so that he could ask if Tom wanted to be on the phone while my ears were pierced. Tom didn’t want to be a distraction and didn’t need to be there so after a bit we ended the call. Faol took a quick dip himself and then we were ready.
He covered me with a blanket and made me quite comfortable. He kept up a calm monologue describing what he was doing and though a bit nervous I felt safe and secure. It went well. I know that many many people have their ears pierced and it is nothing. But I have a phobia about needles so this was a big deal for me. It went very well. The only problem was that Faol couldn’t get the captured bead into the ring. I tried it myself after a bit but the beads were so tiny that it was impossible to see the little dents on the sides that would be clicked into place in the little empty space in the ring. Faol was very frustrated with it but handled it well and decided that we would go back to the piercing store where he got the rings. It took the apprentice about 15 minutes to achieve it after trying a couple of different tools. I was a bit gratified to see that even someone who had done it before, at least a few times had some difficulty as well.
Afterward we went to an Insight, which is a seminar and social meeting. This was a town meeting with topics suggested by the community and spoken on by the community. We were late due to the ear piercing but still made it for the last couple hours. It was quite interesting and we had the chance to socialize with friends a bit.
On the way home we rented 3 movies, Madagascar,
Man-Thing, and Mr.
and Mrs. Smith. We stopped to eat at the Brite Spot then headed home to
watch one.
