I got into a conversation with my son's partner about jobs as my son is in desperate need of one. On the Internest, online Nest of CAW, there has been a spate of people getting better jobs, or at least decent jobs. We have been calling it job mojo. In my morning conversation on ICQ (isn't technology wonderful, sometimes?) with my daughter-not-in-law (don't know what to call partner of my son, living together but not married or handfasted) I was telling her about a magickal working that had come to me while reading someone's post which included the line "nekkid pagan dancing" or something like that. So I got this spontaneous image of dancing naked in the living room chanting something like "Job Mojo, Job Mojo, Kevin needs a job. Go, go, go, Job Mojo". She said something about her dancing would chase the mojo away and I promptly assured her that Job Mojo liked ladies who dance with enthusiasm and joy, that Job Mojo didn't have mundane standards about looks or abilitiy. I suddenly realized that I was thinking of Job Mojo as an entity, a being, a spirit whose domain is jobs. And who clearly doesn't have a mundane view of what is appropriate or necessary for working.
In fact, as I reported this to Tom when he finally deigned to join the day and get out of bed I found myself expounding more on its nature. This entity, Job Mojo, is clearly somewhat subversive as mojo or magick is rather subversive and often used to find the loopholes in the mundane realm. It has received much energy from a group of people who don't tend to be the "norm" according to the larger societies standards and who seem to have different standards about what constitutes a good job. Clearly Job Mojo is an alternative kind of being with sympathy for getting down and having a good time, naked dancing being one of the ways to give it pleasure and draw its positive attention, as well as one with an understanding of how to play the system without getting trapped in it. Wow!!! This concept really energizes me.
Now I am thinking about creating an altar to it. What do you think should go on such an altar? Email me about it. I will definitely post my Job Mojo altar description and any rituals for it.
Addendum 8/30 -- The Job Mojo dance worked! (Along with the magickal efforts of my nesties in the Internest:) Kevin got a programming job here in Madison only a few days after my actually doing the above dance.
