Workshops

Sunday, July 2, 2000

Sunday's schedule had been rearranged as several people holding roles in the main ritual had to leave that evening in order to go to work on Monday. The Scion Council meeting was held Saturday to free up space on Sunday. In the morning Magenta held a Nature Meditation but because of rain it was held in the field under the big tent rather than down in the woods.

Jack held a SweetWood Temenos informational workshop for those interested in hearing how it was developing. The word Temenos refers to a sacred precinct and Jack wants to see the membership Pagan campground develop in that direction. He reported on some of the costs of items like the perk test, how much the septic field will cost, and explained why we can't have a gravel bed area and a solar shower (DNR insists that there be no gray waste water without a septic field in place). The septic field will run about $12,000, the well about $8,000, and a permanent open air pavilion put up entirely with volunteer labor will still be about $2000. Members agreed that we want to pay for improvements as we go and not try and take out loans or do anything that will put us into debt that could risk losing the land. Jack and Kim are the landowners. They are having a lease agreement drawn up so that the SweetWood organization will be leasing several acres from them for very low fees for the campground and will have an option to buy the land outright should it become possible in the future.

Members and non-members alike gave us good feedback and advice on what they would like to see and are willing to do. It was suggested that paid members not pay late fees (event fees usually have a low fee for early registrants and adds an amount for late registrants), that there be a sliding scale for event fees, and that information be sent out my snail mail as well as by email (currently almost everyone on the list has email).

I facilitated the next workshop along with Ken Heronheart, Lee, and Richard. We did an Introduction to the Grok-System (I have mentioned in previous entries) with sample exercises as a taste of what the meetings are like. I spoke about the Grok healing focus group. Ken did the Wisdom Council (meditation and inner silence) focus group. Richard did the Listening focus group (interpersonal relations) and Linda did the Grok Circle focus group. Richard and a volunteer demonstrated the technique of Active Listening. I demonstrated a Sahaja Yoga technique for moving the energy upward through the chakras. It went fairly well. If there had been more time it would have been nice to do 4 workshops, one on each of the focus groups rather than combining them but it worked well anyway.

Then we had the ritual rehearsal followed by the Marriage of the Aquarian Deities ritual.
