Voting and a Long Day

Tuesday, November 07, 2000

Firefly got up early today, even though he doesn't go to bed til after 3 pm. He wanted to make sure that he voted. And since I had class all day and would be going to the CAW student group after class would not get home again until well after the polls close. We went up to vote together. This was his first time of voting. The polls weren't open yet so we had to wait about 10 minutes.

One of the poll watchers congratulated him on his first election:) Then I dropped him off at home and headed out to school. The CAW meeting at school is at 8:00 pm so I went to the Union, bought a sandwich, and read for a while. I went to the meeting room and no one was there. I waited a bit until Aeona came and we sat there talking for about 35 minutes but no one else came. She said she had been very busy with school and midterms and had not been able to get the word out about the meeting. Ah well.

She did get a small grant from the Student Organization Office that will be used for a few ads. It wasn't much money and will only pay for 4 ads but it is something. She also told me that she was applying for an available grant, which could be used to fly a student or two out to the CA CAW clergy retreat. The point is that it should benefit the students in the organization in some way. She suggested that she and I could take advantage of the grant. I am uncomfortable about it though. At this point, the student group has no regulars but us. A few people have come once. I don't really see how the student group would benefit from flying us out to the clergy retreat. So I will just go ahead and pay for my own as I had originally intended.

Another available grant makes more sense to me. Apparently we could fly someone out for a presentation. Aeona suggested flying out Maerian as the editor of a premier Pagan magazine, The Green Egg. I think this could be of benefit for the Pagan community in general, not just the CAW student group.

I got home earlier than I had expected since we didn't really have a meeting. On the radio I heard the results of the election. It was sounding too close to call but very little of the vote was in yet. Gore was gaining though, which sounded good to me. Tom and I went right into the hot tub when I got home. I felt a little stressed. The hot bubbly water helped quite a bit but by the time I went to bed I was feeling stressed about the election again. I told Firefly to wake me up if Gore won, thinking that since he would be up til 3 am he would know. He didn't wake me up.
