Yay! Finally our hot tub was delivered today! Two men, Brett and Nick, drove up in a van with an open trailer. There was our hot tub. Brett told me he really wasn't sure about venturing down our driveway. How would he back the trailer up our hill to get back out again, if it was the wrong place? Once heading down into the woods they were committed to the end. We had warned them that once they came down the drive they had to come all the way to the end but I guess they had to see it to believe it.
They drove the van across the front yard, unhitched the trailer and moved it by hand to the spot we wanted the hot tub, and then slid it off onto the gravel pad. They tried to level it but once we added the water it seems to have gotten a little uneven. I think we will see if there is anything we can do about that this weekend. Maybe we can dig a little of the gravel out from one side without emptying it (cuz we are not emptying it now). They spent time describing the chemical process of chlorine and ph-decreaser/increaser, testing, testing, and more testing, then went on their merry way.
We had begun to fill it with warm water from the house - not hot water as it apparently shuts off the heater as it thinks it is too hot, or something. But we hoped that using warm water would take less time to get up to temperature. They told us it would take about 24 hours and it did indeed seem to come up about 2-3 deg. per hour. So we started adding hot water from the hot water heater every hour trying to hurry up the process. When the temperature went down we shut it off and waited for the water heater in the house to catch up and tried it again. That did actually help quite a bit so instead of taking 24 hours, it took about 12 hours. Unfortunately that would have made it about midnight and I had to go to bed about 10 pm to get up for school the next day.
So the day ended up being rather odd. I did homework for school in between checking the water temperature and adding more water to the hot tub hoping to use it that evening. Tom worked in between checking on the hot tub, fiddling with the chemicals, and testing it. Finally about 8:00 when we realized that the water from the hot water heater wasn't catching up and was only at 90 degrees we gave up for the night. But it better be ready for me tomorrow when I get home from school!
