Yesterday was the midterm in Abnormal Psych. It really wasn't too bad, much less specific that I expected for the most part, except for the odd couple of questions. However, I spent a lot of time studying for it and found that by the test everything was getting jumbled; which was the Psychodynamic explanation for Generalized Anxiety Disorder? Was it low serotonin for depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or depression and Panic Disorder, or was that low norepinephrin? Etc. Etc. So I was a little geared up for it.
Then as I was walking back to the car after the test I realized that I had not put any money in my purse for parking and when I looked, sure enough, I didn't have enough. I wanted to stop at the gaming store to look for the little glass, flat bottomed stones used as markers. They would be perfect for the 16 stone I-Ching method. So I stopped in and found a set with 5 colors. But they only took checks over $15 so I had to purchase something else - I picked a Magic: the Gathering small starter deck for $6. I asked them if I could write the check over the amount so I could get cash back for parking and they obliged. But in the meantime my stress level increased. It wouldn't have been a big deal (and truthfully wasn't really) if I wasn't already hyper from the midterm. Sigh...
The trip home was relatively uneventful, other than being in the dark and I have poor dark adaptation but that is usual. Luckily the hot tub was waiting when I got home. We hopped in and I chattered about the day, winding down, finally. I saw what I thought was a bird flying around in the dark, out of the corner of my eye. Tom thought he saw a bat. But I splashed myself in the face trying to duck out of the way when the bat headed right for me a few moments later. Hmmm this isn't quite as relaxing as I had planned! But I settled down and didn't worry about it too much. A few minutes later the leaf that fell into the hot tub started to try and swim and I realized, of course, that it was a bat. Tom got my flipflops and kept trying to get it out of the water, which eventually after it had swum half way around the edge of the tub, he managed. It flew off within a minute so hopefully the chlorine in the tub didn't' hurt it. But I decided it was time to get out.
Why did the bat fall into the water? I didn't see any insects hovering over the tub. I thought maybe the rising warm moist air confused it. But I am not looking forward to it being a regular part of night time hot tubbing either. We are planning on getting a small skimmer - it will make getting bats out of the water much easier.
