School Starts, the Mysteries Don't

September 5, 2000

School started. I spent the day between classes doing the usual, running around trying to get books. So I got way more exercise than usual. But my classes all seem pretty interesting. I am taking a Women's Study course - A Cross-Cultural Perspective of Women. The instructor, a newly made Ph.D., has incredible energy and enthusiasm. She talks a mile a minute but since there are no exams I don't have to worry about keeping up with her in taking notes. Grades are determined by doing all the assignments. She uses video clips to illustrate points, sometimes 3 or 4. We saw clips from Harry meets Sally or something like that, Desperately Seeking Susan, another from Canada, etc. It is a very interesting and contemporary approach.

I am also taking two psych classes, Intro to Clinical Psych and Abnormal Psych. I think they will compliment each other, which is always convenient. The Clinical Psych class is an applied course so there will be a lot of practicing interviewing techniques, role-playing, doing an intake interview, etc. It should be very good for developing my therapy skills. I felt really good and energized later in the afternoon.

When I got home I discovered there was a message waiting for me from Maerian. The CAW Eleusinian Mysteries had been put on hiatus for this year. They would take place next year but not this year. Quite a blow! Yet I was only marginally distressed. The energy had shifted for me that day. I haven't had a headache in several days and I feel able to get on with getting on. One of the people involved with putting it on was having serious health problems, and one of the major roles was carried by a member of the family. This knocked two important people out. It was very difficult for Maerian to pull this one together for some reason but this delay will, I hope, allow the necessary support to be worked out.
