Divine Madness

Sunday August 19, 2001

Love is a kind of Divine Madness, a gift of the Gods that takes us out of the sane world of our everyday lives, that paints the world in bright colors, entrancing sounds, joyous feelings so deep and intense that they fill our hearts to bursting. And because of love we strive to reach for goals we might not have had the courage for; we do great deeds, find an entire world in the eyes of another. Through love we leave our safe ruts to take chances that lead us to grow and expand. We are enticed to be more than we were before. No wonder people seek it, pine for it when it is gone or not found, write poems to it, worship Deities of Love, do spells for it, or just put personal ads in the paper. For without it life is dull and unfulfilling.

But love is not something that can be hunted and captured. It is purely a gift, freely given. Love can work miracles. When we can tap into universal love we can achieve our wildest dreams. Perhaps it is this power of love to bring about miracles that causes some to fear it, to want to control it, to button it down, hedge it round with rules and regulations, to say that only certain people can love each other, or it can only be when it is sanctified by societies' rituals. A world of people who love deeply and openly, who honor the power and magick of love, would be a world much harder to control.
