We had a planned nest meeting this morning. Our nest is set up with a nest council as a governing body but through turnover Tom and I are currently the only members of the council. We wanted to talk with the newer local members to see whether we still wanted a nest council, who should be on it, etc. We reviewed all the decisions that had been made previously by the nest council and decided that yes, we still wanted one; yes it would be composed of local members; yes we wanted a year and a day before new members could be asked on to it, and yes, we wanted it to be by invitation and not an automatic right. We also agreed that we still wanted to attempt consensus with the whole nest first. If it couldn't be reached a matter would move to the nest council where consensus would be tried for two meetings, and then if it were something that had to be decided, we would vote with a simple majority deciding. We've actually never had a matter move to a vote but I like knowing that we have that as a back up so that no one can use needing to reach a consensus to block a matter indefinitely.
We also spent time dancing together. Phoenix had brought some music she liked and I put on one of my favorites by Rusted Root and we had a great time dancing. Now that is a good way to grow closer!
After the nest meeting the 4-wheel drive vehicle left first. We knew it was icy from the rain on top the snow that had occurred last night but still expected a 4-wheel drive to be able to get out. Unfortunately she didn't make it. She was sliding so bad going down the first hill that she stopped at the bottom and struggled back up the hill with her dog. After 3-4 hours of ashing the driveway, digging her car out of the side snow bank and maneuvering they finally stopped at dark with her car stuck perpendicular to the drive, one set of tires in one ditch, the other set in the snow on the other side of the drive. They walked back in again.
So the houseful of people stayed another night. It was a good thing that everyone brought so much food for the potluck. We hung out together and went in the hot tub for aches and bruises.
