Yesterday I started this interesting book, Reiki by Diane Stein. It talks a lot about how to do it and the hand positions and things like that. She recommends doing a daily self-healing and gave a description so I thought I would try it. It took about an hour though and I don't have the time to do that every day but it was quite interesting. My hands got very hot while doing it. I have not had a Reiki attunement but I would like to. I have had other energy attunements and have done energy work and laying-on-of-the-hands healing work. I don't expect what I learn from the book to be the same as doing Reiki because I understand the need for direct transmission of an energy pattern in order to be able to call on it. But I think that it can inform and enhance my current abilities as well.
I also started actually working on the Birch bark mask for my ancestral altar. And while doing it thought about making small masks from the inner bark. The main mask is being made from the outer paper-like bark. I thought it would be fun to have all my nest members, those who want to at any rate, make their own mask. Then the smaller masks could be strung together and hung on either side of the main mask. I will have to bring it up and see what they think.
Then last night we had the first ritual of the magickal group we are forming. We all decided that we were working towards being a coven but that coven implies a level of commitment we aren't sure that we all want to make at this time. It was good to do the ritual and I thought it felt good. One of the members made some suggestions for changing the ritual (we used one that Tom and I used to do in our Wiccan training groups) that I think will work very nicely and address some of the ways that we have changed since the last time we worked in this way. We had not planned a particular working to do though so I felt that much of the energy ended up being dissipated in talk about mundane matters. I believe that will be much less of a problem when we have a specific goal and working to do. I am very optimistic about this group.
Today however, I have gotten almost nothing done, not even putting away the altar tools. I woke up about 5 am with a headache but couldn't bring myself to get up and get something for it when I would be getting up soon anyway. I almost woke Tom up to do it cuz he can fall right back asleep but couldn't bring myself to do that either. He would thank me for that if I mentioned it to him:) I haven't been able to shake it though so haven't done a trance, or read the books for my training program, or cleaned up, or much of anything. I have had a slow ongoing conversation with Tess on ICQ though. That has been nice. She has a new relationship and sounds happy. That makes me feel a little better.
We ordered a cell phone yesterday. Tom wants me to have one with me in case something happens on my vision quest and I need medical assistance or something. We don't actually know that it will work from the campsite but that is another problem. Anyway it came next day priority delivery and FedEx actually found our house, something that they often can't seem to manage. So Tom is now playing with it. It comes in a locked mode so it can't be used but there is a code to unlock it. He hasn't been able to make it work though so we have the phone but can't call on it. Great:( I just went to try it. We both followed the directions but the code isn't unlocking it. I tried other codes, like the last 4 digits of the phone number, etc. That didn't work either. We pulled the battery to reset it and started over. That didn't do it either. He called once and they gave him a number to call to activate it but with the phone lock it won't accept any number so that didn't work. This is very annoying. I am regretting it already. Argghh!!!
Well he called and apparently because we purchased it on the internet or something the code was already set, rather than use the preset one, to be the last digits in his social security number. So now the phone is unlocked but it says roaming. So our house is out of the area although the map shows it as covering all of WI. Roaming charges are very expensive so this makes it unfeasible for the most part. Double arrggghh!!! Tom will have to call and see what's up with it.
