Back to L.A.

Tuesday December 3, 2002

We got up early and I finished my last minute packing. We headed out actually on time. There were no major lines, which I thought was a good thing. But it turned out that the airplane was delayed by weather in Chicago. The plane that I would be taking was stuck in Chicago, at first they said one hour, then two hours, then they said it was ready to leave the gate and be de-iced so it would only be one hour after all. However, there was apparently a long line of planes waiting for de-icing so it was back to two hours. After it was clear that I would miss my connecting flight I was able to get on the standby list for a plane to L.A. from Denver. All the flights were booked up so I couldn't get a confirmed connection. Throughout this I called Tom and F. to update them on my status but it kept changing. Then when we were delayed another hour it was too late to make that standby flight and they changed it to the next flight.

Finally we took off and I arrived about 30 min. before my connecting flight but deplaning takes time and I scurried to the train for transport to the next terminal. Then I dashed to the Gate. The man behind the counter at the gate said to me, "it is all full" and I started to turn away. Then he said, "no wait let me check." Then he issues me a boarding pass and tells me that there is one minute until they close the door. I hurry down the jetway. But when I arrive at my seat there are still several seats empty and ten min. later the captain tells us we will be staying another 10 min. to let strays who were delayed due to weather make a connection. I arrived tired but happy to be here and F. was there waiting. And it was so good to be in his arms again.

With all the mix up I never got a meal so we shared a fish burrito meal and each had a salad. Then we go to Susan's house (she is sick) to clean out her cat box for her. It was good to see her and spend a little time catching up but we didn't stay long. Finally we go back to the house and I am so tired but… Later we sleep and F. sets his alarm to get up for his night shift at work but he can't make it awake. The alarm goes off, I wake him, go downstairs, come back up and let him know the time, and finally lay down with him again. He sleeps for about 45 min. then realizes that he isn't going to make it to work. After he called in we made love again. He said that he was very happy he had not gone into work after all. So was I. It was very hot and sweet.

Unfortunately I was so keyed up from the flight and everything that I just couldn't get into a solid sleep. I drifted but was mostly conscious all night.
