A Wild Ride

Thursday December 5, 2002

I woke up at 4 am feeling pretty good, energized, and unpacked all of my clothing for the first time since I have been coming here. I have a drawer in F.'s dresser for my clothes and have been keeping some clothes there all along but generally live out of my suitcase otherwise when I visit. It felt very good, almost being settled and after the emotional evening before was somehow even more emotionally satisfying. I had time to think about it and though I knew we needed to talk about what had happened some more, I also felt completely turned around in mood.

He had an epidural scheduled for today and the transportation people phoned thinking that it was fine to come earlier than had been previously arranged (at 5:30 am instead of 6:30 or 7:00) but since he wasn't home from work yet (he had already worked out leaving early to accomadate the time they had originally set for this.) they had to wait. After he left for the hospital I did half the sink full of dishes, just enough to make me tea and reheat the leftovers of yesterday's breakfast. After breakfast I finished the dishes, scrubbed the sink, cleaned half of the stovetop (it is too much for me to do with the current condition of my wrists though I am hoping that the Chiropractic appt. will improve them). I called Tom and spent an hour and a half talking with him, then did my exercises. It was a good morning.

Some time after F. came home from his back procedure we laid down to nap but he had business with his lawyer so had to call him before settling down but the lawyer wasn't in or was busy. I had just drifted off when the lawyer called back. F. talked to him for sometime then got out of bed and went downstairs while I tried to sleep but I just couldn't do it. Eventually I gave up and got up. I have been very short of sleep since I got here but I am hoping to adjust to the schedule here quickly. We went to dinner in Chinatown and I had the spicy Eggplant dish that I am so fond of.

Then we went to see the new 007 flick whose name escapes me at the moment. It was a fun movie - but fairly typical Bond, some good repartee and double entendres, lots and lots of action, technogadgets, pretty women, and some sexuality. But at the end F. got an intense back spasm most likely from the uncomfortable seats and his back procedure. He was in a lot of pain and seemed to be very very focused on getting us home again (he has a stick shift and I don't know how to drive them though I think I probably could have managed but his efforts then to direct me might have disturbed his focus so I didn't want to suggest that we try). In any case he raced us home to get to the ice pack. It was actually pretty amazing. I think we made it in about half the time it usually takes. Luckily there was not much traffic. Most of the trip I focused on holding an energy shield around the car while also visualizing the road ahead of us being entirely clear of obstacles. I was very worried about him but he was better pretty quickly once he got to the ice. It was however, a wild ride.
