BelSummer Begins and Land Sale

Thursday May 30, 2002

I called the Port-a-let place to let them know that we would be gone till noon. We have to pay them when they deliver and I was worried about it affecting whether we could get it or not. Then we headed out to the closing on our land.

I met the lawyer for the first time and she seemed like a nice person. The whole thing turned into quite an ordeal though. I spotted something wrong with the payout itemization but they explained it away the first time. Then after all the checks were cut the figures didn't work out right and we had to go back and look at it. Then the lawyer for the buyer described one way of doing it that would have been essentially be a double entry for his client and a double loss for us and I wasn't having any of that.

Eventually they managed to do it in a way that we thought was ok but frankly by that time we weren't sure about it at all. And it had taken an extra hour to work everything out which meant higher lawyer fees for us both. It was stressful. And I kept worrying that the delivery people would be at our place and we wouldn't be there.

Actually when we arrived the truck was waiting for us but he assured us that he had only been there for a few minutes. The main differences in this one versus others were there was a hand purifying station attached to the wall, and a garbage can for feminine hygiene products or whatever. The sales pitch was pretty intense on the phone though for how wonderful these were. Still they cost slightly less than others in the area and included a few amenities so it was a good deal.

A few people arrived later in the afternoon and evening so we really had time to rest a bit before things got started.
